Yahoo Mail went down yesterday morning and a lot of people were so upset they’ve threatened to close down their accounts.
The outage appears to have affected most of Europe, as well as parts of the US and many other places across the world. Yahoo is a tech company which once operated a dominant search engine but has found it difficult to compete in the era Google and Facebook. It’s now owned by Verizon Media. Despite its apparent decline, Yahoo’s mail service is still used by hundreds of millions of people.
As news of the outage spread, a number of people threatened to swap to Gmail, an email client operated by Yahoo’s arch-rival Google. ‘What an absolute disaster,’ Heather Brandon, a Scotland-based accountant wrote in a tweet to Yahoo. ‘Not the first time your mail has been down! The one day I really need access to my emails for important documents. ‘I will be switching to Gmail as soon as I can!!!’ ‘YahooMail is down when I really needed it,’ a Twitter user added. ‘Guess I’m using Gmail for everything now.’ The outage started early on Thursday morning, according to the website Down Detector. ‘SO FRUSTRATING,’ one person raged on the site’s comment section.
